Patterson,Ca.- Junior quarterback Dylan Swartz threw for 4 touchdowns and scored one himself, leading Modesto Central Catholic to a bruising 48-35 victory over Patterson before a sell out crowd at Pattersons' Community Stadium.
With Patterson concentrating on stopping the Central running game, Swartz completed 16 of 22 passes for 292 yards and four first half scores.
Running back T.J. Belton ran for two touchdowns and gained 131 yards for Central and Swartz also ran a TD in from 10 yards out.
The game started out like a heavywieght fight with both teams trading knockout punches.Patterson scored first when QB Daniel Reza sprinted 39 yards for a TD. Central came right back with Swartz lofting a 39 yard scoring toss to David Biscevic . Emmanuel Brooks scored from 1 yard for Patterson and the Tigers led 14-7 as the first quarter ended.
The scoreboard really lit up in the 2nd quarter and the ferocious hitting escalated as well. Swartz hit tight end C.J. Carson on scores from 18 and 22 yards. Patttersons' Brooks ran the ensuing kickoff back 91 yards giving the Tigers a 21-20 lead with 50 seconds left in the half. that was enough time for Swartz to complete 4 sraight passes, 3 to standout reciever James Orth,including a 5 yard TD. A two point conversion gave the Raiders a 28-21 halftime lead.
Third quarter TD runs by Belton and Swartz took a little life out of the Patterson crowd as Central went up 42-21. Patterson wasn't about to quick though.QB Daniel Reza who through for 322 yards on the night hit Ronyea Ellington on a 61 yard toss late in the third to pull within 42-28.
Belton scored again for Central and Wyatt Young caught a 5 yard pass from Reza for the Tigers' final score.
Orth ended up with 104 yards on 7 receptions, David Biscevic had 4 catches for 95 yards and junior tight end C.J. Carson grabed 3 passes for 72 yards and 2 touchdowns.For Patterson Rinyea Ellinton stood out with 10 receptions for 200 yards and one score.
With one regular season game left Centrals' record is 8-1 overall,4-0 in Weatern Athletic Conference.Patterson now stands at 7-2 and 3-1 .
