Gydget announced today that AEG Live, one of the largest concert promoters and special events companies in the world, is using its viral fan widget, or gydget, to keep Reba and Kelly Clarkson fans united following the sold-out 2 Worlds 2 Voices Tour that ended in mid-February. AEG Live launched a contest at the end of February using the widget as the primary communications vehicle. The contest encourages fans to submit their tour photos and videos for display within the widget. The thousands of die-hard fans who have the widget on their personal web pages are immediately updated as new content is added and have come to depend on the gydget for news from Reba and Kelly. Each month a fan that has submitted content is selected to win a Reba and Kelly prize package featuring cds, tour merchandise and autographed photos. Thousands of fans have already submitted their personal photos and videos from the shows. Fans can grab the gydget and get more information about the contest at http://www.gydget.com/contests/reba_and_kelly.
"We originally built a gydget to help drive ticket sales for the Reba and Kelly Clarkson Tour," said Glenn Miller, Internet Marketing Manager at AEG Live. "But when the tour ended and I looked back and saw how many fans had grabbed the gydget, I wanted to reward their loyalty by providing exclusive content from the tour within the gydget. Plus, it's a great way to maintain fan loyalty," added Mr. Miller.
"Music fans that grab widgets and proudly display they them on their profile pages are the most loyal fans," said Gerardo Capiel, CEO of Gydget. "It's great to see a promoter like AEG Live fostering these fan relationships and using the gydget as a vehicle to provide unique content."
Six months after launching Gydget.com, almost 900 artists and teams and thousands of independent bands have created customized fan widgets, or gydgets, to increase their exposure on social networking sites. In addition to the four major labels, Gydget customers include independent music distributor, IRIS Distribution, digital media services company, The Orchard, and leading artist management firms and promoters.
