Most Award-Winning Short Film in History Paired With 'The King of Kong'

Director David Bonham Casci again unveils his unrivaled prize-winning comedy short about video games run amok at the Nuart Theatre in Santa Monica.

"Extended Play" blitzed the festival circuit in 1982, premiering in L.A. at the Nuart Theatre. After scoring Best Short Subject at the L.A. International Film Exposition (FILMEX), "Extended Play" racked up a record-breaking 82 awards at competitions worldwide, and was mentioned in Encyclopedia Britannica Book of the Year for this achievement.

As one critic raved, "An amazingly prescient piece released at the onset of the video game boom, treating this new phenomenon much like 'Dr. Strangelove' treated Mutual Assured Destruction. 'Extended Play' hilariously views the adolescent appeal of the twitch game as a clear indicator of our descent into a new Dark Age."

David's famous Bonham forebears helped found both the State of Texas and the British colony of Hong Kong. Following in their illustrious footsteps, David made history himself in 1982 when "Extended Play" became the most award-winning short film ever. Bonham Casci was soon one of two young directors considered for "Pee-wee's Big Adventure," ultimately helmed by Tim Burton (who would eventually marry into the celebrated Bonham line).

David has penned screenplays for writer/producer Sam Hamm (BATMAN I and II), wrote for 20th Century FOX, Paramount, Columbia, Hanna-Barbera and Disney, and founded Academy Leader, Inc., presently the most award-winning international TV ad agency in the world with 62 international awards. He has just completed a children's storybook with illustrations by Disney alum Frans Vischer, who also provided art direction for "Extended Play."

"Extended Play" will entertain Nuart patrons once again, through Thursday, August 23rd, following the 9:45 p.m. screening of the acclaimed video gamer documentary "The King of Kong - A Fistful of Quarters," which features two Donkey Kong champs in a cross-country face-off that mushrooms unexpectedly to epic proportions.
