Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) and USA WEEKEND Magazine today announced the launch Sept. 15 of "Netflix Movie Picks," a trivia sweepstakes that will test millions of consumers' movie knowledge. Questions could focus on movies like 2004's "Starsky and Hutch" and ask the name of Snoop Dogg's (Huggy Bear's) iguana -- Butch, Corky, Scales or Woogie.
The national promotion, which will run for five weeks beginning this Friday and conclude on Oct. 19, relies on Netflix's fast-growing online presence and USA WEEKEND's strong print reach. Netflix, the world's largest online movie rental service, has over 5 million subscribers and USA WEEKEND reaches over 49 million readers weekly through more than 600 newspapers.
The "Netflix Movie Picks" questions will be published each week in USA WEEKEND Magazine and will direct readers to www.netflix.com/usaweekend to enter the sweepstakes and qualify to win weekly prizes. There also will be sweepstakes information and a link at www.usaweekend.com. Prizes include one-year Netflix memberships valued at $250 each and a grand prize of a Netflix lifetime membership and a state-of-the-art home entertainment center with a combined total value of $4,000.
"USA WEEKEND engages our readers with exciting and interactive content," said Jack Curry, executive editor of USA WEEKEND Magazine. "'Netflix Movie Picks' plays on people's love of movies and fascination with movie trivia and partnering with Netflix on this sweepstakes is a perfect way to bring that to life."
"We're all about making the enjoyment of movies easy and we're thrilled with the opportunity to deliver that message to the millions of USA WEEKEND's readers," said Leslie Kilgore, Netflix's chief marketing officer. "We hope people will have fun with the sweepstakes and join us each week."
Winners will be identified at the promotion's conclusion, with the grand prize winner announced in USA WEEKEND Nov. 12.
As a footnote, the name of Snoop Dogg's iguana in "Starsky and Hutch" was Corky.
