New York, November 20, 2006 – Denzel Washington is the star of the thriller "Déjà Vu", but at the movie’s New York premiere on Tuesday, everyone clamored after a fur-clad Jada Pinkett Smith, who showed up unannounced and sauntered down the red carpet. That’s because just three days before, Jada had been in Italy, attending the wedding of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Jada declined interviews, but did say that the wedding was “great” in response to a shouted inquiry.
Denzel said that shooting the film in hurricane-shattered New Orleans was a good thing to do. “It was a small drop in the river, the money we spent there", he said. "But at least I would like to think we suggested to the film industry to get down there, and don’t shy away from New Orleans”, he added. "Déjà Vu" is the third movie that Washington has made with director Tony Scott, who was fully clothed at the premiere. But we got a laugh from the circa-1985 photo of Scott wearing shorts and a vest over at TheReeler.com. Tom Cruise is in that photo, too!
William Moseley, the British star of "The Chronicles of Narnia", is living in New York to study acting, and attending premieres is one of the perks of being in the Big Apple. He lives in the West Village, and the 19-year-old deftly deflected my question about which clubs he hangs out at.
Donny Osmond is also living in New York for a Broadway stint in "Beauty and the Beast." But he’s not alone. “My son has moved here”, Osmond said. “He’s now an official New Yorker, my oldest son. He’s looking for the right advertising or PR job. Interviewing like crazy.”
Christina Ricci looked glamorous, particularly in this mostly-male crowd. Val Kilmer wore a suit jacket, so it was hard to tell if he’s really lost the paunch.
