New York, November 7, 2006 – Duran Duran’s performance was the big draw at the final concert of the 2006 Cipriani/Deutsche Bank series benefiting amfAR. But guests at swanky Cipriani Wall Street had to wait a bit for the show, because first came a live auction run by the glamorous but pushy Sharon Stone, who raised over $1 million for AIDS research.
Duran’s Simon LeBon noted that it’s important that the group pitch in to fight the ongoing AIDS crisis, while band mate Roger Taylor spoke about the disease on a more personal level. “It’s taken a lot of great people from this city. A lot of the people that we kind of grew up with in the ‘80s, a lot of those people disappeared", he said. "A lot of people in the art scene, a lot of people in the fashion industry just disappeared off the planet. So it’s kind of fitting that we’re back in New York to try and do something for such a great cause.”
Kimora Lee Simmons wore a Roberto Cavalli dress, and she towered over the designer when she ran to greet him. Ron Perelman, Michael Kors and Elizabeth Rohm also took in the show.
