Insurgents killed 11 people on a bus as they headed to work in the Iraqi town of Baquba Wednesday morning. Police said the 11 shooting victims were all workers at a state-run electric company. Three people were wounded in the attack.
The gunmen fired multiple bullets into the bus after two vehicles pulled up on either side of it. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the killings.
Meanwhile, the official death toll from Tuesday's suicide car bombing in Tal Afar has gone up to 20. The official number of people wounded in the incident in which a car bomber detonated his explosive device inside a crowded market is now 37.
President Bush had lauded Tal Afar as an example of progress in Iraq after American and Iraqi troops reclaimed the city in September after a month long drive to rid the city of insurgents. The insurgents had effectively controlled the city prior to that time.
Tal Afar is the third largest city in Iraq and is located only 45 miles from the Syrian border.
Despite Bush's proclamation, violence has continued in Tal Afar. In addition to yesterday's car bombing, a suicide bomber killed 30 people in March at an Iraqi army recruiting center just outside the city.
