New York, May 5, 2006 – The Tony Awards may be a star-studded affair this year, judging by the crowd at the 72nd Drama League Awards luncheon on Friday. Ralph Fiennes, David Schwimmer, Cynthia Nixon, Paul Rudd and Harry Connick, Jr. all turned out for the ceremony at the Marriott Marquis, while "Threepenny Opera’s" Alan Cumming hosted.
Julia Roberts, currently making her first Broadway appearance in "Three Days of Rain", was a trooper and turned out for the Drama League luncheon despite less than stellar reviews. In addition to a few acting lessons, we suggest that Julia look into a stylist – the housedress she wore did not appear to be a costume, and those shoes have been criticized before. It has been recommended in the press that it would boost the Tony Awards telecast ratings if Julia Roberts hosts the show in June, and certainly, everyone will tune in to just to see what she’s wearing!
"Jersey Boys", "The History Boys", "Sweeney Todd" and "Awake and Sing" were the big Drama League winners.
