Israeli aircraft struck a training camp used by militants in the Gaza Strip Friday, killing five militants. Four of the dead were related to a high level commander of the militant group known as the Popular Resistance Committees which has claimed responsibility for numerous rocket attacks against Israel from the Gaza Strip.
The attack took place yards away from the home of Moumtaz Dourghmush, a high ranking militant in the PRC. Dourghmush was not present at the time of the strike although his brother and three cousins were among those killed.
Palestinian sources say that at least three missiles were fired at the camp which was in use for training militants at the time of the attack.
An Israeli army spokesman said the camp had been targeted as the militants involved were training to attack Israel. 'The army will continue to track down those who support and are involved in terror attacks,' the spokesman said.
Rocket and mortar attacks have been up since Israel unilaterally withdrew from the Gaza Strip last summer. The new Hamas-led government has refused to condemn attacks against Israel and Israelis and has pledged not to arrest any militants who carry out such attacks.
In addition to launching rockets and mortars into Israel, the Popular Resistance Committees is widely believed to be behind the deadly bombing of a U.S. diplomatic convoy in October 2003.
