A new autopsy done on a 14-year-old Florida boy who died after being beaten by guards at a juvenile boot camp indicates that the beating was most likely the cause of his death. The first autopsy done by the local medical examiner claimed that the child died from sickle cell.
Martin Lee Anderson died just one day after he was beaten by camp guards. The incident was captured on video tape.
Dr. Michael Baden, who was hired by Anderson's family to observe the second autopsy, said, 'My opinion is that he died because of what you see in the videotape.' The tape showed the guards kicking and punching Anderson even after his body had gone limp.
When asked about the first autopsy, conducted by Dr. Charles Siebert, Baden simply said, 'I think he made a mistake.'
Anderson's family wanted further action taken against the people who beat him. 'I'm just glad the truth is out,' Anderson's mother, Gina Jones, said. 'But I already knew what the truth was. Now that the truth is out, and I want justice. I want the guards and the nurse to be arrested.'
No arrests have been made in Anderson's death but the boot camp where the incident took place has been closed. The D.A. says the investigation into the incident is continuing.
