Two British soldiers have been killed during fighting in Afghanistan on Tuesday. The British Ministry of Defense confirmed the deaths today.
A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Defense told reporters, 'Two members of the UK armed forces have been killed in action in Afghanistan. The next of kin are being informed but there are no further details at the moment.'
A report by BBC radio said that the two soldiers were killed in fighting in the Sangin area of the Helmand province although the Ministry of Defense would not confirm or deny the information.
This is the third casualty in that part of Afghanistan since British soldiers increased their presence in the region earlier this month. Thousands of additional NATO troops are expected to reach the region by the end of July.
According to a report by the Associated Press, 29 militants were also killed in the fighting in Helmand province along with two Afghan soldiers.
In all, 10 British soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since November 2001.
