World Premiere of THE BLOOD OF YINGZHOU DISTRICT
NBC’S TODAY SHOW Co-Anchor Ann Curry To Introduce
SILVERDOCS: AFI/Discovery Channel Documentary Festival presents the World Premiere of THE BLOOD OF YINGZHOU DISTRICT by Ruby Yang at 7:00 p.m. on June 14 at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center. The screening is a spotlight event for the DOCS Rx program that showcases films and inspires discussions that illuminate complex issues in public health using the best of cinematic storytelling.
In the film, little is known about the main character, Gau Jun, not even his age. He does not
speak a word until the closing minutes of the film, yet the AIDS orphan’s search for a home to
call his own forms the dramatic center of this stunning documentary set in rural China.
The program opens with a video message from Jimmy Carter, Honorary Chair of SILVERDOC’s RX program, 39th President, Founder of the Carter Center and 2002 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. TODAY SHOW co-anchor Ann Curry will introduce the evening.
Following the screening, Former US Assistant Surgeon General and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health Susan Blumenthal, MD MPH talks with Nils Daulaire, MD MPH, President and CEO Global Health Council; Thomas Lennon and Ruby Yang, The China Media AIDS Project and THE BLOOD OF YINGZHOU DISTRICT, Clifford Lane, MD, Clinical Director, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, (NIAID); Jack Valenti, President, Friends of The Global Fight Against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Former President, MPAA; and Frank O. Richards, MD, Technical Director for the River Blindness Program, Lymphatic Filariasis Elimination Program and Schistosomiasis Control Program, The Carter Center.
