Fore!!!! Fine Living TV Network is launching a nationwide search for the host of 'The Wandering Golfer,' a series touted by Sports Illustrated.com as the 'best golf show on television.' Beginning July 15, 2006, wanna-be wanderers can visit FineLiving.com/golf and submit an application and videotape explaining why they should have a chance to 'putt'er around the globe exploring the people, places and experiences that define the soul of this great game.
Current Wandering Golfer Chad Maulsby spent a year and a half traveling the world in search of the best courses and clubhouses. Now, with the adoption of his new daughter, he is tackling a different course – fatherhood.
'As hard as it was to decide my stint as the Wandering Golfer had to come to an end so I could spend more time with my wife and daughter, I'm anxious to see who will be taking over the reigns and where the show will go from here,' explains Chad. 'The concept of The Wandering Golfer is so original, noble, informational, and entertaining…and it's shot beautifully in high-definition. No matter who hosts the show, none of those qualities will change. I'm confident that we'll find the right person to fill my shoes...and the show will only get better.'
Chad believes the world of golf is truly a platform to experience life. 'Being the Wandering Golfer is more than just a job, it's an identity...a way of life so to speak. The gig meant more to me than I ever thought it would. When I first got this job, they spoke to 150 guys – all better looking and all with more TV experience – and then, there was me. So if you have the right attitude and you can get people to say, 'I'd like to be doing what that guy is doing right now,' then you have what it takes to be a part of this process.'
FineLiving.com/golf will serve as the hub for information surrounding the Search for the Next Wandering Golfer. In addition to housing the search rules and application forms –which will be accepted through September 15 – the site will feature an interactive golf game, exclusive broadband clips, as well as numerous golf and travel ideas and resources.
During the search period, viewers can relive Chad's adventures and favorite moments around the globe during the hour-long special, 'The Wandering Golfer: Chad's Final Round' (w.t.) scheduled to premiere August 20. Also this summer, look for Chad as the honorary chairman for the World Amateur Handicap Championship, August 28-August 30, 2006, in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
After the big announcement in November 2006 of 'who' is named the Next Wandering Golfer, FINE LIVING will debut The Wandering Golfer: Mulligans (w.t.), a bloopers special about the search for the new host and another new special on the search and selection process. A new season featuring the Next Wandering Golfer will premiere on FINE LIVING in spring 2007.
