Los Angeles, June 8, 2006 – Hollywood looked like Britain with palm trees on Thursday, when Sir Sean Connery was honored with the American Film Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Kodak Theatre was awash in classy accents with Tom Jones, Jane Seymour, Jacqueline Bisset, Pierce Brosnan, Craig Ferguson, Eddie Izzard and Julia Ormond at the ceremony. Yanks respect Connery too, and hotshots like George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford, Brett Ratner and Chris Tucker all were at the dinner.
Mike Myers donned a kilt, and, per the AP, said, "Men want to be him, women want him, and in my case I both want to be him and want him."
Hugh Hefner, who personifies the playboy lifestyle of the James Bond character that Connery brought to life, acted the part with a bevy of curvaceous young women on each arm. Hef just turned 80 years old, incidentally.
Tippi Hedren, who looks better than her daughter, Melanie Griffith, Barbara Davis, Bai Ling, Andy Garcia, James Earl Jones and Lou Gosset, Jr. rounded out the eclectic guest list.
