FBI Says 2 More Suspects In NYC Bomb Plot In Custody

A spokesman for the Federal Bureau of Investigation said that two more suspects in the terrorist plot to flood lower Manhattan by attacking the Holland Tunnel are presently in custody abroad. Lebanese officials arrested one person allegedly involved in the plot earlier today.

'We have, I believe, two others that are in custody directly related to this, again in the foreign environment, not criminally charged at this point,' explained Mark Mershon, assistant director-in-charge of the FBI New York Field Office.

Mershon said that the FBI has identified eight principal suspects in the bomb plot. 'We believe we have what I'll call eight principal players. And that we have them largely identified. As I say, some are in custody, one of those has been charged formally in Lebanon.'

According to Mershon, the United States worked with the intelligence agencies of six foreign countries to break up the terrorist ring before the plot got past the early planning stage. The terrorists had hoped to flood lower Manhattan and the business district by blowing up the Holland Tunnel and the PATH trains that run between New York City and New Jersey.
