Police ordered the evacuation of Dublin airport for the second time this week as a result of a bomb scare. A suspicious package was found on Friday morning in the arrivals hall, prompting the order to evacuate.
The bomb squad was called in and worked for approximately two hours on the package. After a controlled explosion detonated the package, the all-clear was given and the airport was reopened.
'The gardai [police] have just given the all clear at 9:55 AM [local time] for staff to re-enter the building,' an airport spokesman said. 'There was at least one controlled explosion.'
On Tuesday of this week, the airport was evacuated after a man claimed to have a bomb in a package. It was later discovered that the man's package contained only clothes and newspapers.
Today's incident was considered more serious. 'The bomb disposal team was notified at just after 8:10 AM,' a defense forces spokesman said on Friday. 'An unattended bag was found and a preliminary investigation by airport police showed that further investigation was required.'
The airport was evacuated and the bomb squad was called in. After the two hour delay, the airport was reopened and flights resumed in and out of Ireland's biggest airport.
