North Korea has indicated that it would respond to any pre-emptive U.S. military attack with an 'annihilating strike and a nuclear war,' according to the Korean Central News Agency, the state-run media service.
'The army and people of the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea, North Korea's official name) are now in full preparedness to answer a pre-emptive attack with a relentless annihilating strike and a nuclear war with a mighty nuclear deterrent,' the report said.
The story also accused the United States of escalating tensions by holding war exercises, aerial espionage and by placing new spy planes in South Korea.
The U.S. often runs flights through North Korea for informational purposes. North Korea actually tallies the flights it can track. The U.S. does not admit nor deny the existence of the flights.
Tensions between the United States and North Korea continue to rise. Pyongyang has threatened to test long range missiles that are capable of delivering nuclear missiles to the United States and the U.S. has said it will do what it can to prevent the tests. It remains to be seen who will blink first.
