The Tampa Bay Lightning have placed Dave Andreychuk on waivers. The 42-year-old Andreychuk is the Lightning captain and a future hall of famer.
If no other team claims Andreychuk, he will be assigned to Tampa Bay's minor league affiliate in Springfield, Massachusetts. It is unlikely he will have to play for Springfield.
Andreychuk was struggling this season. He has six goals and 12 assists in the team's first 42 games this season. The Lightning are presently tied for eighth place in the NHL's eastern conference with the New Jersey Devils.
Andreychuk is the NHL's all-time leader in power play goals with 222. He has scored 640 goals and added 698 assists in his 23-year NHL career. Before playing for Tampa Bay, Andreychuk spent time with Buffalo, Toronto, New Jersey, Boston and Colorado. He had back-to-back 50 goal seasons in 1992-93 and 1993-94.
Andreychuk has yet to announce what his next move would be if no team claims him on waivers. The Lightning have also yet to name a new captain.
