Talk show goddess Oprah Winfrey has signed a three-year, $55 million deal with XM Satellite Radio. Winfrey will debut a new radio station on XM this September that will feature self-improvement topics and guests who appear on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' during the week and in 'O', Oprah's monthly magazine.
Oprah herself will co-host a weekly radio show along with Gayle King. King is a frequent guest on Oprah's daytime television show.
The radio show joins Winfrey's impressive entertainment empire which already includes her television talk show, magazine and a Broadway play.
Winfrey has joined XM, the main competition for shock jock Howard Stern who recently signed a five-year, $600 million deal with Sirius Satellite Radio.
Thus far, XM has more subscribers than Sirius with more than 6 million as compared to more than 3 million for Sirius.
In addition to Winfrey, XM also has shock jocks Opie and Anthony and live radio broadcasts of all major league baseball games.
XM stock was up after the announcement that Oprah was joining the network.
