Israel took immediate action in the face of shelling and missile fire in a disputed parcel of land along the Syrian/Israeli/Lebanese border. Hezbollah guerillas fired shells at Israeli outposts at Chebaa Farms. Israel responded by quickly striking at Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah claims their attack was in response to the death of a Lebanese man who was shot while attempting an unauthorized crossing the Lebanese border into Israel earlier this week. Israeli Defense Forces said the man was armed and carrying binoculars. Lebanese officials say it was a 15-year-old shepherd, Ibrahim Youssef Rhayyel.
Neither side mentioned any casualties in connection with today's shell and missile fire although Hezbollah guerillas did admit their bases were hit by Israeli fire.
Chebaa Farms is a parcel of land disputed between Israel, Syria and Lebanon. Hezbollah terrorists say they will fight to have the land given back to Lebanon and claim to be 'liberating' it from Israel. The U.N. says it is part of Syrian territory now controlled by Israel. There are frequent fire fights between Israeli Defense Forces and Hezbollah guerillas.
