President Bush says the United States and its allies are working to quickly get a U.N. resolution to end Israel-Hezbollah violence.
He says diplomats are working on a comprehensive, lasting solution with twin resolutions that would stop the violence and restore Lebanon's sovereignty.
Mr. Bush, speaking at his Texas ranch with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, says he recognizes that Israel and Lebanon government object to parts of the proposal.
Rice said she has spoken to the leaders of Israel and Lebanon about their concerns. Rice says she believes the resolutions are a reasonable basis to move forward on. She is expected to head to New York for U.N. Security Council meetings on the matter Monday.
Meanwhile, in Beirut, Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora met with Arab foreign ministers for emergency talks on the fighting.
Diplomats say Washington and Paris had hoped for a vote on the first resolution today.
The resolution before the Security Council calls for an immediate end to all Hezbollah attacks on Israel and requires Israel to stop offensive military operations. It urges the "disarmament of all armed groups in Lebanon."
