Hollywood's most closely watched couple have delivered: Katie Holmes had a baby girl Tuesday night, her first child with fiancée Tom Cruise.
The couple has named their daughter Suri. She weighed seven pounds, seven ounces and was 20 inches long.
Arnold Robinson, Cruise's publicist, released a statement saying that, 'Both mother and daughter are doing well.' The statement also indicated that the name Suri has its origins in Hebrew, meaning 'princess,' or in Persian, meaning 'red rose.'
Specific details about the birth were not disclosed.
This is the first child for the 27-year-old Holmes. Cruise, 43, has two adopted children from his prior marriage to actress Nicole Kidman.
Cruise is starring in the forthcoming film, 'Mission Impossible III.' He and Holmes announced their engagement last year although no specific date has been set for their marriage. Earlier this month, Cruise indicated that the couple would get married this summer after the baby arrived and his film was released.
