Laura Michalchyshyn, Executive Vice President Programming and Marketing, Sundance Channel, announced today that the network has acquired the exclusive U.S. television rights to Loïc Prigent's 'Signé Chanel' produced by Arte France , Films d'Ici, and Lallala Productions. The five-part series documents the creation of the House of Chanel's Fall/Winter 2004-2005 couture collection designed by Karl Lagerfeld. Sundance Channel will air the series beginning in September 2006.
From Karl Lagerfeld's early sketches and selecting fabric to creating Chanel's signature braid and hand-looming tweed to the celebrity-laden first row at the show, Signé Chanel offers an inside look at the creation of an haute couture collection. This series is an affectionate portrayal of the fascinating enclosed world of the couture house, with its age-old skills, human comedy and tense, secretive atmosphere.
'It is a real treat to offer Sundance Channel viewers a look into the painstaking and fascinating creative process of putting a collection together.' commented Michalchyshyn, 'There was never a more independent spirit that Coco Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld continues the tradition with his magnificently designed and crafted couture creations.'
The deal was negotiated by Christian Vesper, Vice President Acquisitions, Programming and Scheduling, Sundance Channel, and Emmanuelle Erbsman, Head of Sales Arte.
