A total of thirteen more American troops were killed this past weekend in Iraq according to American military sources. Four Americans were killed by hostile fire while five others were killed when a truck rolled over during a flash flood in western Iraq. Three others American troops are missing as a result of that incident.
The U.S. military said it was 'using all resources available' to locate the two soldiers and one sailor who were missing as a result of the flood. The incident took place Sunday near Asad air base in Anbar, not far from the Syrian border.
Five Marines were killed in that incident when a seven-ton truck rolled over during a flash flood. American military sources say that preliminary indications are that hostile fire was not involved in the truck incident which they are describing as an accident.
Three Marines and one sailor were killed by enemy fire in separate incidents that also took place in Anbar province over the weekend.
The new deaths bring the total number of American troops killed in the war in Iraq to at least 2,342 since the United States invaded Iraq in March 2003.
