Michael Jackson may be viewing the courtroom from a different perspective in the coming weeks: the self-proclaimed 'King of Pop' has been summoned for jury duty.
Despite the summons, it is unlikely Jackson will serve on a panel. Jackson has already asked for a deferment. His lawyers filed the necessary papers, claiming the pop star now lives in Bahrain rather than at his Neverland ranch.
'He is permanently living outside of the United States,' Thomas Mesereau Jr., Jackson lead defense counsel at his recent child molestation case explained to the Associated Press.
Gary Blair, the jury commissioner said it is doubtful Jackson will serve on a jury.
'All he has to do is show he has legal residency somewhere else and he'll be exempted,' Blair said.
It is not unheard of for celebrities to be called on to serve on juries. Ronald Reagan was actually called while he was serving as president but was given an exemption until he was out of office. Bo Derek actually served on one jury and has received two jury summonses from Santa Barbara County.
