With Hurricane Wilma expected to reach the coast of Florida this weekend, the NFL decided to reschedule the Miami Dolphins-Kansas City Chiefs game originally set to kick off at 1:00 PM EDT in Miami. Instead, the game has been moved up to Friday night at 7:00 PM EDT.
The move will help local emergency teams prepare for Wilma's likely arrival. Evacuations are likely for residents in the coming days. It will also give the Chiefs a chance to get back home to Missouri before the storm hits.
It is not certain whether or not the game will be televised nationally. Federal law prohibits the NFL from televising games nationally on Friday and Saturday nights because of interference with high school and college football. DirecTV subscribers with Sunday NFL Ticket may have to view the game on a tape delay basis. The game should still be televised live in the Kansas City and Miami areas.
The Dolphins have also postponed a halftime ceremony to honor Dan Marino. Marino was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this past August and was to receive his Hall of Fame ring at halftime. That presentation will now be made on November 6 during halftime of the Dolphins-Falcons game.
This marks the third straight year the Dolphins have had to reschedule a game because of extreme weather conditions.
