The latest Associated Press-Ipso poll shows that President Bush's job approval rating continues to be an at all-time low. The poll results say that people are concerned about the ongoing war in Iraq, gasoline prices, the economy and the cost of rebuilding after hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
The poll found that only 28 percent of those surveyed believe that the country is heading in the right direction while 66 percent say the nation is on the wrong track.
The president's personal job approval rating remained at 39 percent, tied for its all-time low.
Ironically, Bush seems to be losing support from his core constituency: religious conservatives and conservative Republicans. In December 2004, two-thirds of Republicans strongly approved of the job being done by Mr. Bush while the most recent poll showed that barely half strongly approved of the president.
Fiscal conservatives seem to be concerned about the money being spent on rebuilding the Gulf Coast area in the wake of the two recent hurricanes while social conservatives are alarmed over the president's choice of Harriet Miers to fill the vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court.
The poll of 1,000 adults was conducted by Ipsos, an international polling company, from Monday to Wednesday and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points.
