President Bush addressed the nation on Thursday morning on the ongoing war in Iraq in attempt to reverse his own falling poll numbers and support for the war effort there.
The president made more improper allusions to the September 11 attacks and the war in Iraq and then compared the Islamic ideology of terrorist groups to communism which the United States was able to defeat after approximately 45 years of 'Cold War.'
Mr. Bush asserted that terrorists were focusing their fight on Iraq which is why he claimed we must continue the fight there.
'The militants believe that controlling one country will rally the Muslim masses, enabling them to overthrow all moderate governments in the region and establish a radical Islamic empire that spans from Spain to Indonesia,' Bush said.
Speaking before the National Endowment for Democracy, Mr. Bush attacked the Islamic ideology used by militant groups throughout the world and pointed out the majority of the victims of these groups are fellow Muslims.
Terrorist groups were getting support from 'elements of the Arab news media that incites hatred and anti-Semitism.'
'We are facing a radical ideology with immeasurable objectives to enslave whole nations and intimidate the world,' Bush said.
Bush tried to address the growing segment of Americans that are tiring of the seemingly endless conflict in Iraq.
'There's always a temptation in the middle of a long struggle to seek the quiet life, to escape the duties and problems of the world and to hope the enemy grows weary of fanaticism and tired of murder.'
He concluded 'Against such an enemy, there's only one effective response: We never back down, never give in and never accept anything less than complete victory,' Bush claimed.
'With every random bombing, and with every funeral of a child, it becomes more clear that the extremists are not patriots, or resistance fighters,' Bush said. 'They are murderers at war with the Iraqi people themselves.'
