It's not quite the end of the Cold War but in Hollywood terms, it's close. Two talk show giants, Oprah Winfrey and David Letterman have apparently agreed to end their nearly decade-long feud and make peace with one another.
To mark the truce, Oprah has agreed to be a guest on the 'Late Show With David Letterman' on December 1.
The feud dates back at least as far as the 1995 Oscar telecast, hosted by Letterman. Dave bombed with the 'Oprah/Uma' joke which Oprah did not take well. Shortly thereafter, Letterman started listing on air all the invitations he made to the Oprah to appear on his show and how she refused.
Winfrey has appeared on Letterman's show but not since the 1995 Oscar telecast. In a 2003 'Time' magazine interview, Oprah said, 'I've done the show twice [and] both times I was sort of like the butt of his jokes. I felt completely uncomfortable sitting in that chair, and I vowed I would not ever put myself in that position again.'
Well, times have changed. David sounded conciliatory and excited, issuing a statement saying, 'This just gives you an idea of what a big, big star this really is.' She's huge. Put bygones behind us, the water under the bridge, over the dam, wherever water goes - standing in your basement - she's going to be here on this show and it's going to be fantastic.'
Oprah will be on the show to promote the Broadway musical version of the film 'The Color Purple.'
