'Harry Potter' Works His Magic at the Box Office

Harry Potter continues to work his magic at the box office. The fourth installment in the series based on the popular books by J.K. Rowling, 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire' earned $101.4 million in estimated gross receipts at the box office this weekend to easily take home first place.

The film dominated the box office despite earning a PG-13 rating due to fantasy violence and special effects. 'Goblet of Fire' opened to stronger box office than any of the previous Potter films and even ended Hollywood's box office slump by helping to raise ticket sales to 19 percent higher than they were the same weekend a year ago.

The Johnny Cash biopic, 'Walk the Line' starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon finished a distant second with $22.4 million. The two stars do their own singing in this film which received strong reviews from critics.

Last week's top grossing film, Disney's 'Chicken Little,' fell to third place with $14.8 million in gross receipts followed by Jennifer Anniston's 'Derailed' with $6.5 million and the science fiction epic 'Zathura: A Space Adventure' with $5.1 million.

Rounding out the top 10 were the Gulf War memoir 'Jarhead,' rapper 50 Cent's biopic 'Get Rich or Die Tryin',' 'Saw II,' 'Legend of Zorro' and 'Pride and Prejudice.'
