Redskins Run Past Eagles 17-10

The Washington Redskins got touchdown runs from Clinton Portis and Mike Sellers and a solid effort from their defense to stop the Philadelphia Eagles 17-10 in Washington.

The Eagles were playing without star wide receiver Terrell Owens who was suspended by the team after making comments detrimental to the team and about quarterback Donovan McNabb. Owens was also reportedly in a fight with former Eagles defensive end Hugh Douglas last week.

Reggie Brown stepped in and replaced Owens and was successful. The rookie grabbed four catches for 94 yards including a 56-yard touchdown pass that provided the Eagles only trip to the end zone all game.

Mark Brunell led an efficient Redskins attack completing 21 of 29 passes for 224 yards. H-back Chris Cooley was on the receiving end of seven of those passes for a career-high 85 yards while Clinton Portis dashed for 67 yards on 21 carries.

The Eagles made a last gasp attempt to tie the game and send it into overtime but the drive stalled at the Redskins 7 yard line when McNabb's fourth down pass was intercepted by Ryan Clark with just 1:25 remaining in the game.

With the win, the Redskins improved to 5-3 at the halfway mark of the season. They showed resiliency, bouncing back from an embarrassing 36-0 trouncing a week ago at the hands of the New York Giants. The defending NFC champion Eagles fell to 4-4, good for last place in the tough NFC East. Head coach Andy Reid has a difficult week ahead. His first order of business: determining what to do with his very talented but malcontented wide receiver.
