Israeli missiles hit a car in the northern Gaza Strip today killing two leaders of Palestinian militant groups according to published reports.
The Israel Defense Forces confirmed the missile attack and indicated the target was Hassan Madhoun, a senior member of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades. Madhoun is responsible for carrying out attacks against Israelis.
The other man in the car has been identified as a member of the 'military' wing of the militant group Hamas, Izzedine al Qassam.
Both were killed when the missile, fired from an Israeli helicopter, hit the car they were traveling in.
Monday night, Israeli security forces also arrested nearly two dozen Palestinians suspected of terrorist activity in the West Bank. Of the 23 people arrested, 13 were affiliated with Islamic Jihad, eight were members of Hamas and two had unknown affiliations.
Both Hamas and Islamic Jihad are dedicated to the destruction of Israel and are considered terrorist organizations by the United States.
