Defense Rests in Jackson Trial

The defense in the Michael Jackson child molestation trial rested today as the pop star's child molestation trial begins to wind down. Jackson never took the stand in his own defense.

The prosecution told judge Rodney S. Melville that they will probably be able to wrap up their rebuttal case tomorrow. After that, all that would be left is closing arguments and jury instructions before the jury will begin deliberations.

Tucker's early testimony said he was introduced to Jackson's alleged victim's father at the Laugh Factory, a comedy club in Los Angeles. He asked Tucker to come to a fund raiser for the boy, telling Tucker that his son 'loved him and was dying of cancer.'

Tucker first met the boy at the fund raiser. After it was over, Tucker testified that the alleged victim told him the fund raiser didn't make any money and that they needed money. Tucker wired $1,500 to the family.

Tucker later befriended the boy, taking him and his brother shopping at a local mall and taking them to an amusement park and on other outings. He later indicated he took the family to Las Vegas to visit the set of a movie he was working on. The boy started calling him on a regular basis.

Tucker later described the alleged victim as a 'cunning kid' and said that he believed something was 'not mentally right' with the boy's mother. 'The mother was always frantically saying I was their brother and they loved me,' he said. 'I was getting nervous. … I thought, 'I need to watch myself,' because I'm high-profile and sometimes when people see what you've got they try to take advantage of you. I had to pull back.'

Tucker also indicated he first met Michael Jackson, who he considers a close friend now, through the alleged victim and his family.

Jackson is accused of sexually molesting a then 13-year-old cancer patient and holding him and his family against their will at his Neverland ranch. If convicted, the self proclaimed 'King of Pop' faces up to 20 years in prison. Jackson denies all the charges against him.
