While it may not be generating the buzz that the final episodes of 'Seinfeld' or 'Cheers' did, tonight's series finale of 'Everybody Loves Raymond' will mark the final episode of a television classic that is sure to endure.
Ray Romano's family sitcom lasted nine years and 210 episodes and best of all, it managed to maintain its high standards of humor, good writing and ratings over its complete run on CBS.
The inspiration for the series was born out of Romano's successful standup act at the family observations of the comedian and writer-producer Phil Rosenthal who had just finished working on the show 'Coach.'
Perhaps the key to the show's long-term success was the Romano remained true to himself and never got caught up in the crazy world of celebrity. 'That guy you see on TV, that's him,' Rory Rosegarten, Romano's career-long manager told 'Newsday.' 'Here's an unassuming, family oriented guy, his best friends are still his best friends from growing up in Forest Hills.'
Tonight, CBS will air 'Everybody Loves Raymond: The Last Laugh,' a one hour behind-the-scenes look at the making of the final episode and a retrospective of the series. The last episode will be only a half hour long and will air at 9 PM EDT tonight on CBS.
Even after nine years, it remains true. Everybody still loves Raymond.
