The finger of blame has come back to haunt Anna Ayala, the woman who claimed to find the finger in a bowl of Wendy's chili. According to the San Jose police department, the finger belonged to a friend of Ayala's husband who lost it in an industrial accident last December.
Police Chief Rob Davis called a news conference to discuss the case with reporters. 'The jig is up. The puzzle pieces are beginning to fall into place,' Davis declared, indicating that genetic tests proved the finger belonged to the husband's acquaintance whose identity is being withheld.
Ayala has been charged with attempted grand theft in connection with the case. She had planned to bring a lawsuit against Wendy's over the alleged incident.
In addition to the charges pending from the finger incident, Ayala has been charged with grand theft for an unrelated case in which she allegedly tricked a woman out of $11,000 in a real estate deal.
Her husband, Jaime Plascencia, has been charged with failure to pay child support and with identity theft when he allegedly assumed the social security number and identity of his young son so his wages would not be garnished.
