Revenge of the Sith: Dark Film Explores Switch to the Dark Side

The most anticipated film of the summer, 'Star Wars: Episode III, Revenge of the Sith' is too intense for children, especially those under the age of eight. Just ask creator George Lucas who warned parents not to bring their kids to the film.

'We're getting a lot of flak from parents, a lot of people saying how can you do this? My children love these movies. Why can you not let them go see it?' Lucas told the Associated Press. 'But I have to tell a story. I'm not making these, oddly enough, to be giant, successful blockbusters. I'm making them because I'm telling a story, and I have to tell the story I intended.'

'Revenge of the Sith' tells the story of Anakin Skywalker's final transformation into the evil Darth Vader. The film includes scenes of women and children being killed, characters losing arms, legs and even a head in light saber duels and one character catching fire and screaming in agony as the skin is burnt off his body.

'This has always been a dark story,' Lucas told USA TODAY. 'It's about a man's descent into hell. That's pretty serious stuff.'

'Revenge of the Sith' is the first 'Star Wars' film to earn a PG-13 rating. All of the previous films were rated PG which simply means parental guidance is suggested. PG-13 warns that parents are 'strongly cautioned' and the film may be too intense for children under the age of 13.

The fact is, many parents will take their children to see it anyway since children have become enamored with 'Star Wars' films since the release of the original movie in 1977. 'Revenge of the Sith' will open in theaters on May 19.
