The Washington Wizards announced today that they have suspended center/forward Kwame Brown for the rest of this year's playoffs.
Ernie Grunfeld, the Wizards president of basketball operations released a statement saying, 'Coach [Eddie] Jordan and I met Kwame this morning. The three of us felt it was best for both the Wizards organization and Kwame that he no longer participate in the remainder of the playoffs.'
No specific reason was given for the suspension although it may be related to missed practices and shootarounds. Brown played only four minutes in game three of the series. He was excused from practice Sunday due to a stomach virus. He missed Monday's game and the pre-game shootaround Monday afternoon.
The Wizards and Chicago Bulls are presently tied 2-2 in their best-of-seven opening round playoff series.
The 23-year-old Brown has been a disappointment since being taken first overall in the 2001 NBA draft. In 42 regular season games this year, Brown averaged only seven points and 4.4 rebounds per game and was often booed by the fans at the MCI Center in Washington, DC. His future with the team after this season is unclear.
