Broc Bebout had quadruple-bypass surgery at age 39, a young age to be sure. He took the warning signs seriously and changed his lifestyle and began exercising by riding his bicycle regularly and started eating a healthier diet.
18 years later, to celebrate his second chance at life, Bebout planned a cross country bicycle trip from Carlsbad, California, to Brunswick, Georgia, a trip of roughly 2,400 miles.
Well, Bebout made it...sort of. One day after completing the trip, however, Bebout suffered a heart attack and died during the van ride back to his Anderson, Indiana home.
Bebout's wife, Patricia Brinkman, received an e-mail from him just after the trip was completed. He described the journey as 'An incredible experience with incredible people.' She said he seemed to be thriving when she had joined him on a 60-mile leg last week in Alabama.
'It was a trip of a lifetime,' Brinkman told the Associated Press. 'We all have a list of things we like to say we did. That was right up there at the top.'
