Oscar winner Hilary Swank has been fined by a court in New Zealand for bringing unauthorized fruit into the country. New Zealand has strict quarantine laws in place to prevent outside pests from infecting their crops. Swank violated those laws when she failed to declare an apple and an orange into New Zealand without declaring them.
The appeals court ruled against Swank's application so the actress was fined $200 New Zealand (roughly $142 US) plus ordered to pay court costs of $30 New Zealand ($21 US).
Swank wrote a hand written letter to the appeals court saying, 'After my 20-hour flight I simply forgot I had one orange and one apple. I do apologize sincerely.'
The court did not give any special treatment to Swank who won the Best Actress Oscar this year for her role in Clint Eastwood's 'Million Dollar Baby.' Swank had previously won a Best Actress Oscar for 'Boys Don't Cry.'
Swank's next project is a film called 'Black Dahlia' which will be directed by Brian De Palma.
