I am, of course, referring to Farrah Fawcett whose reality show, “Chasing Farrah” debuted last week. TV Land’s new reality series follows the iconic Hollywood actress and sex symbol as she goes about her daily life. Viewers will go on a wild ride with the jet-set actress as she travels from Hollywood to Miami to New York to Texas, with her entourage of managers, publicists and film crew. We get a rare behind-the-scenes look at the actress, who skyrocketed to super-stardom in 1976 from her role in “Charlie's Angels” and as a sex symbol with the 1977 release of a poster which sold 8 million copies.
There's something utterly fascinating about Farrah, which makes this show something you have to check out. As gorgeous as she is, we forget she has had her share of hardships. For instance, for the hit TV show 'Charlie's Angels,” Farrah received a paltry paycheck of $10,000 per episode. Farrah felt dissatisfied about both her contract and her paycheck and after the first season, she abruptly left the series. Shortly there after, the departure resulted in a lawsuit and she was replaced by Cheryl Ladd. Even though she was dismissed as a sex symbol, she forged ahead and turned her career and image upside down by starring in brutal and demanding roles in 'Extremities' and 'The Burning Bed.'
“Chasing Farrah” shows her reunited with ex-lover Ryan O’Neal and there is something reassuring about seeing them together again. Farrah says she wholeheartedly endorses the idea of marriage but admits that she does not know how or want to adhere to one. Meanwhile, Ryan has a notoriously past with first wife and mother of his children, Joanna Moore. Moore suffered addiction problems and lost custody of her two children, Tatum and Griffin. The exact set of circumstances happened to Tatum, as her marriage to John McEnroe resulted in a bitter divorce and due to her heroin addiction, lost custody of her three kids. On an interview last year on Oprah, Tatum described Farrah in typical 'dumb blonde' terms: 'I just don't know how to communicate with her…I don't know if she remembers and I just don't know what planet she's on.' Whatever.
We do see that Ryan and Farrah are still deeply in love. The reconciled superstar couple is rumored to marry on the show. The pair ended their 17-year relationship in 1997 but have been dating for the past year and they now want to marry for the first time, with footage of the ceremony appearing on Fawcett's new show. It's been claimed the pair, who have a 21-year-old son, reconciled over O'Neal's battle with leukemia. Farrah explains that when she and Ryan were an item, everyone wanted them apart and now it seems the tabloids want them back. Many relationship experts will attest to the fact that if two people are meant to be together, nothing can screw it up. It gives us faith to see that Farrah and Ryan have withstood the test of time.
