The competition between ISPs continues to benefit consumers. Today, Yahoo! announced that it was increasing its mail storage space to 1 GB per account, roughly four times its previous capacity. The move was done to help Yahoo! compete with Microsoft's MSN Hotmail and GMail from Google.
Advances in technology have allowed Internet users to e-mail streaming video and photos which take up a lot more storage space than the typical e-mail which contains just text. This was creating problems for some Yahoo! users. It will be difficult for an e-mail user to max out 1 GB of storage space per account.
The storage upgrade should take effect in April and take approximately two weeks to implement. A spokesman for Yahoo! indicated there would also be additional antivirus capabilities in the new Yahoo! mail.
