Hackers could have obtained sensitive personal information of 59,000 people affiliated with California State University. They had obtained access to a secure area on the California Universities networks and could have stolen the names and Social Security numbers of students and alumni.

The university found out about the attack during routine monitoring of its network systems. The investigation shows that hackers installed special software that would store files on the system and then it would try to break into other computers.

Identity theft is one of the fastest-growing crimes in the United States, hundreds of thousands of our nations citizens personal information has been comprimised by hackers.
