The sequel to the surprise hit 'The Ring' made a strong showing on its opening weekend to capture first place at the box office. The Naomi Watts horror sequel, 'The Ring 2' took in $36 million since its Friday opening, giving it a comfortable lead in the race for box office supremacy.
The sequel is already off to a much better start than its predecessor which took in $15 million in its opening weekend before positive word of mouth helped it gross $129 million in the United States alone.
Second place went to last week's top draw 'Robots' which took in $21.8 million. In the 10 days since its release, the family film has taken in just shy of $67 million in ticket sales.
Vin Diesel's 'The Pacifier' held on to the third spot with $12.5 million followed by Disney's 'Ice Princess' with $7 million and Will Smith's 'Hitch' which had $6.6 million this weekend.
Rounding out the top 10 were 'Be Cool,' 'Hostage,' Oscar winner 'Million Dollar Baby,' 'Diary of a Mad Black Woman' and 'Constantine.'
