Movie news round-up: Friday

A news round-up for Friday...in no particular order.

Cheaper by the Dozen 2: I actually was quite fond of the original with Steve Martin, and so were a lot of other people, so now a sequel to the comedy is in the works. Adam Shankman is in the directors chair for the movie which is apparently about the 12-kid strong family going on holiday, where they see themselves rivalled by a couple with eight kids. Hilarity obviousley ensues.

Scary Movie 4: Okay, hw many more of these can we take. As long as Hollywood keeps chirning our horror movies, we can expect them to be ridiculed by the Scary Movie team. David Zucker returns for the fourth movie in the series and so does the star of all of the movies, 'Lost in Translation's' very own Anna Faris.

Awful End: Constantine helmer Francis Lawrence is to helm part live action, part animation adventure, Awful End. Empire has the plot; "The story follows Eddie Dickens, who is sent to live with his Mad Uncle Jack and Even Madder Aunt Maud when his parents develop a disease that turns them yellow and "crinkly round the edges" and causes them to smell of old hot water bottles. When Eddie and the crazy pair set off to return to their house (called Awful End) they have a series of adventures along the way, including an encounter with The Empress of All China and a case of mistaken identity with an orphan from St Horrid's Home for Grateful Orphans".

Chronicles of Riddick 2: Or should I say Pitch Black 3. Anyway, Vin Diesel, hot off his Travolta bashing with 'The Pacifier' in the US, is in talks to reprise the role of Riddick for The Chronicles of Riddick 2. He told MTV; "Riddick? Well, you know that I've always had 'C2' planned," Diesel conceded. "I'm silently — and I shouldn't even say this — I'm silently working on 'C2' with some of the outlines that were created when I first thought of doing the three films."

The Bomb in My Garden: Sounds like a kids film...but no, as this is based on a non-fiction book of the same name, just optioned by Johnny Depp and Initial Entertainment Group. It's written by Iraq's top nuclear scientist Mahdi Obeidi and People magazine foreign correspondent Kurt Pitzer. Variety reports that the movie will tell the story of how, after Saddam Hussein's capture, Obeidi tried to turn himself and his secrets over to the U.S., only to find the CIA and other government agencies didn't believe him. The journo hatched a scheme to get Obeidi and his family out of the country before he was killed by insurgents who wanted to silence him. Obeidi gave over secrets that included a uranium enrichment device he buried in his yard.

Super Ex: Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman is to direct the comedy Super Ex for Regency Enterprises. The plot revolves around a man whose wife is a superhero. When they split, the crazy woman uses her special powers against him.

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith: Seen the trailer yet? Ooh, ain't it cool. Well Mr. Lucas has revealed to CBS that the film is much, much darker than the original and may get slapped with a PG-13 rating in the US (probably a 12A in the UK). "I don't think I would take a five- or a six-year-old to this," says Lucas, "It's way too strong." It has been revealed that the film gets a little gruesome at it approaches its climax. "[The film] is much more dark...more emotional. It's much more of a tragedy," adds Lucas. "My feeling is that it will probably be a PG-13, so it will be the first Star Wars that's a PG-13."
