U2 will hit the road again this spring, blitzing the US and Canada in support of their latest CD, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. So far, 33 stops have been confirmed on this tour, which is scheduled to run for four months.
The tour will open in San Diego on March 28. King of Leon will open for the act. The first US leg of the tour will end May 28 with a show in Boston. Then the band will take their show to Europe where they will play through August.
But the group's lead singer, Bono, may have a loftier goal in mind. The Associated Press is reporting that he is being mentioned as a possible candidate for a key position at the World Bank, replacing James Wolfensohn as head of the bank. Wolfensohn's is leaving on June 1.
Bank official, John Snow, while not confirming Bono's inclusion on the list of possible candidates, did not rule him out.
'I am not going to review here all the candidates that are on the list. But I will attest to my admiration for Bono,' he said. 'He does a lot of good in this world of economic development. Most people know him as a rock star — he's in a way a rock star of the development world, too. He understands the give-and-take of development. He's a very pragmatic, effective and idealistic person.'
