Actor Mel Gibson took the stand yesterday in the trial of the man accused of stalking him. Gibson told the jury that he feared for the safety of his family because the defendant 'doesn't appear to know his boundaries.'
The defendant, Zack Sinclair, is acting as his own attorney. He did not cross-examine Gibson after the movie star testified against him.
The alleged incident took place in September at a church were Gibson often prays. Gibson left his seat briefly during the service and Sinclair had taken his seat when he returned. 'Hi, I'm here to pray with you,' is what Sinclair said to Gibson according to the actor's testimony.
Gibson said that Sinclair, 'wasn't scary or overtly threatening. I found it odd someone would not have a sense of personal boundary, and whether or not they were welcome.'
Sinclair later was repeatedly found outside the gates of Gibson's estate. He was later given a stay-away order but violated it the first day after his release.
The 34-year-old Sinclair faces up to 16 months in jail for stalking if convicted on the charge.
Sinclair told jurors that he was relying on God for his defense in his opening statement. He did not even give a closing statement.
Jury deliberations begin today in the case which is being tried in a Los Angeles Superior Court.
