BET Awards Show - All About the Performances

Last night’s BET Awards show was more about performances than awards, and while John Legend and Kanye West may have been the biggest winners, the morning after, most viewers are still talking about Destiny’s Child and their “dangerous” lap dances!

For their performance of “Cater 2 U,” Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams pulled Magic Johnson, Nelly, and Crash’s Terrence Howard out of the audience, performing seductively for each of the three men. While Nelly and Magic appeared somewhat amused by all of this, Terrence Howard, who was being “catered” to by Beyonce, appeared to be completely mesmerized, and at one point had to fan himself off!

Earlier, the Fugees opened the show with a medley of “Ready or Not,” “Fu-Gee-La,” and “Killing Me Softly.” The group, which hasn’t recorded together since 1996, started off a bit rough, but seemed to pull it together by the end of the first number. Apparently they have patched up their differences, and according to Pras, they have been in the studio working on some ideas.

Another show highlight came during Stevie Wonder’s performance of “What’s the Fuss.” Halfway through the song, Wonder got up from his keyboard and walked to center stage. With the assistance of two dancers, Wonder performed some choreographed dance moves to the delight of the audience. Wonder also performed with newcomer John Legend, dueting on Wonder’s “My Cherie Amour” and Legend’s “Ordinary People.” Legend won for best new artist and best male R&B performer.

Gladys Knight was honored for lifetime achievement, and showed viewers that she can still bring down the house. Knight performed a medley of songs, including “Midnight Train to Georgia.”

Will Smith, who with his wife Jada Pinkett Smith hosted the show, brought out the cast of Smith’s hit show, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to help with one of the awards.

The award for best group went to Destiny’s Child, and Alicia Keys won for best female artist. Ciara and Missy Elliott won the award for best collaboration, and Omarion won the Viewer's Choice Award. Jamie Foxx won for best actor, and Remy Martin for best female hip-hop artist. Kanye West took home the prize for best gospel artist and best video.
