Two American pilots were killed on Monday when a U.S. Apache helicopter was shot down by a rocket north of Baghdad. The attack took place near the town of Mashahda.
While the U.S. military has yet to confirm the cause of the crash, a witness told the Associated Press that he saw a rocket hit one of two helicopters in the area causing it to crash. American officials are still investigating the cause of the crash.
The identity of the two dead pilots has not been released pending the notification of their families.
Elsewhere, Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari said that two years would be enough time to make Iraq a stable country. Jaafari was responding to comments made by U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld on Sunday in which Rumsfeld admitted that the insurgency in Iraq may go on for as many as 12 more years.
