For the second time in three days a shark attack has taken place off the Florida Panhandle. A teenage boy was critically injured in Monday's attack. His name and hometown were not identified due to his age.
The victim of Monday's attack was rushed to Bay Medical Center in Panama City. The exact nature of his injuries have not been disclosed although his wounds were said to be critical.
Monday's attack took place off of Cape San Blas, approximately 80 miles southeast of Destin where 14-year-old Jamie Marie Daigle was bitten and killed by a shark on Saturday.
Daigle was approximately 100 yards off shore when a shark tore away one leg between her hip and her knee. She was rushed to shore unconscious but was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital.
According to Erich Ritter of the Shark Attack Institute, Daigle was most likely attacked by a six-foot long bull shark. Ritter examined the body of the young girl on Monday to determine the type of shark and the size. Bull sharks are known to be very aggressive and often swim not far from shore.
Shark attacks in Florida are not all that unusual with approximately 30 attacks taking place each year. Very few of them take place in the Panhandle, however.
Experts consider it very doubtful that the shark that attacked Daigle is the same animal that is responsible for Monday's attack.
