Actress Katie Holmes has announced that she is converting to the Church of Scientology, the religion practiced by boyfriend Tom Cruise. Questions immediately arose among the tabloid press if this was a precursor to marriage for Hollywood's hottest couple.
Holmes, 26, made the announcement in London where she is promoting the opening of 'Batman Begins.' The film opens in the United States this weekend.
Holmes was previously Roman Catholic but told reporters she was enthused about her lessons in Scientology, a faith founded by author L. Ron Hubbard.
Cruise has already told 'Entertainment Weekly' that he will propose to his new girlfriend who grew up with posters of Cruise on her bedroom walls.
Cruise has been married twice before, once to Mimi Rogers and once to Nicole Kidman. He was also dating actress Penelope Cruz for several years.
Holmes and actor Chris Klein recently called off their engagement after dating for approximately five years.
Holmes and Cruise announced that they were a couple this past April. Since then, they have been the new 'It' couple, replacing Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston as the most featured in the tabloids.
